A Meandering Life...

Thornton-le-Beans Chapel

One of over 60 churches and chapels across England and Wales under the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches

The site is medieval in origin but mainly rebuilt in 1770 and served mainly as a chapel of rest for the local community. In 1997 it was declared abandoned and unsuccessful attempts to convert it into a house by the diocese made them consider demolishing it. This was when the 'Friends' were approached who took it over in 2010.

Under their care they used the money earmarked for demolition and other donations to repair the main structure. The inside is yet to be done.

I'm not sure if this fine horse is one of the guardians but it kept an eye on us as we looked around.
