Hanging On By The Skin Of Its Teeth

I found this sluggish little solitary bee clinging to a grass stem. I love how it is grasping the grass with its jaws. When Ollie dog and I returned to the house a bee began buzzing around her head as she lay in her bed. She always snaps at them and I worry that she might get stung in the mouth. It disappeared for a while and when it returned she went for it again. She snapped at it and killed it. I was very sad to discover that it was exactly the same sort of bee that I had been photographing. I'm afraid I haven't been able to identify it.

I got a shot of the Essex skipper again today but I think I can better it.
