Definitely a Jigsaw Day

Yes another grey and cold day at only 12.8C. Contrary to the forecast for a dry day, it’s drizzled all day, so my washing is drying indoors. A contractor visited via HomeServe this afternoon to fix two faults on the bedside unit I took delivery of last week. So of the 4 pieces of painted furniture for my spare bedroom from Oakfurniture Land, all had faults. I returned one, accepted a discount on 2, returned the 4th and got a repair on its replacement! I was going to replace my letterbox this morning that was broken by the guy delivering the newspaper, but the replacement I got from Anglian Windows had no fitting instructions in the box!

Day 472 / Day 46 of Step 3 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
Re 19th July date, the PM has said that ‘there may be some things we have to do’ beyond this point - I hope he’s referring to mask wearing and a degree of social distancing given the prevalence of the virus. There were 27,989 new UK cases today (with Scotland having another new daily record), the NE now has the highest rate in England. The good news is that in the two occasions in the second wave when rising numbers met this level, deaths were between 200-400 and there were only 22 today. PHE says that the AZ vaccine gives 94% protection from death in the over 65s, but this is based on data from the Alpha variant. The ONS reported that 385,000 in private households in the UK are estimated to have suffered from Long Covid for a year or more. The PM also said that double jabs will be ‘a liberator’ for those wishing to travel abroad this Summer. A German minister says it is ‘utterly irresponsible’ to have big crowds at Euro matches. Malta has now decided to accept proof of two vaccinations from the NHS app. 1.2m came off furlough during May and from today companies have to contribute 10% of employee wages if still on furlough. A study found that 90% of British households increased their calorie intake during the pandemic, based on data from food and drink purchases.
