Sailing School

We had a lovely day today. Having decided to go to North Berwick to sit in the sun and read we noticed, as we passed Gosford House, that it was Open Day.  Never having set foot inside this magnificent house we went in and took the guided tour.

Admittedly, it was a speedy version of the normal tour but, due to Covid restrictions, were restricted to an hour's worth of an information-packed walk round the house in a small group of two other couples. My impression was that the rooms were smaller than one might expect but full of light. However, the entrance hall is absolutely stunning, a wide double (bifurcated) staircase of marble with alabaster balusters and columns. Photographs were not permitted inside the house so extra (1) is the view of the frontage which might have been taken at any time when visiting the policies.

Lunch was taken once more at the Old Clubhouse in Gullane, for more Cullen Skink, then on to North Berwick for a wander through the charity shops and a seat in the sun at the harbour, from which we had a view of the sailing school in action.

Extra (2) is a pair walking the dog; I loved the exuberance of their colourful clothing and backpacks.

We were home before the torrential rain began, though thankfully it was short-lived.
