A bit of colour

ornamental cherry blossom and washing on a grey day. At least it's not as cold as it has been, but it still doesn't feel like March. Last night's supper worked well, almost all dishes based on the wonderful Jerusalem book, mezes: pumpkin and tahina with date syrup, grated carrot and turnip salad, labneh rolled in za'atar, LoJ's flat breads, aubergine with baharat spice mix, followed by seafood stew, and mutabbaq for dessert, a baklava-like confection but made with goats' and sheeps' cheese instead of nuts. The delicious little Egyptian pastries sent to us by Barrioboy and Digitaldaze went perfectly with coffee afterwards! And it was lovely to spend the evening catching up with friends too.

Tonight we'll be going out to a spectacle followed by a meal, organised by the blood donors' association in the village, so our supper will be cooked for us. I enjoy both - cooking and being cooked for - and it's especially nice when the two kinds of evening follow each other.
