Hotel room

The train journey down to Portsmouth Harbour was uneventful, it included a change at Guildford around 8pm, arriving by the sea at 9pm. It’s only a short walk to the Premier Inn where we were staying. Our friends were already there and sat in the adjacent Steakhouse which is where we met them and ordered dinner.  Service was a little slow to start with but it was nice just to be able to sit, relax and chat with a glass of wine and contemplate the week ahead while we waited for food.

This is the first time I have been in a hotel proper since lockdown began. We had the self-catering week on the Isle of Wight last September, and we’re off for something similar tomorrow, but I haven’t been in a hotel since Hastings in March 2020.   As with many things, as life adjusts to the new normal, the surprising thing about these experiences is that that the don’t seem unusual at all. I guess the brain doesn’t forget things as quickly as we might have thought.
