Wake for Dr David Memba Troko

Were hugely privileged this night to participate in the "Wake Keeping Service" for a wonderful Liberian man who has been in our church for about the last 20 years. Cancer got him very suddenly, and just as he was getting very excited about going back to Liberia to help rebuild his country. (How I HATE cancer!)

There must have been about 200 black faces in our (too white; too middle class) church - and how exciting that was. And oh, the music... Two guys played the piano - one of them often standing up and playing with only one hand as if he was messing - only, the result was stupendous. As was the singing.

Many tears, but much joy also for a life well lived and the huge privilege of having known him.

"Death leaves a heartache, only God can heal;
Love leaves memories, no one can steal."
