In the Mire

A trip into the New Forest this afternoon to Kingston Great Common, a National Nature Reserve. It’s part of a Mire system - the Forest has 70% of the Mires remaining in Northern Europe. We had a good amble. Cotton grass and bog asphodel in profusion.

The day was bookended by a visit to the woodland burial ground in the morning, and to Milford in the early evening to collect fish and chips from La Perle. Last time we were there was to celebrate a significant birthday. To survive through the pandemic they’ve become a takeaway and delivery service. The fish, chips and minted mushy peas were superb.
