Coast Banksia

Fotocchio’s banksia in the UCSC Arboretum a few days ago sent me in search of a local Old Man Banksia, or banksia serrata. When the cones age, they become the Bad Banksia Men of May Gibbs’ stories. This shrub up the street has flowers at different stages, including a new bud and what looks like a bad banksia man within, but seems it’s not a banksia serrata.
