Flying Soldier (Beetle)

I sat on my upturned flower bucket by our stand of lady's bedstraw hoping to capture insects visiting the honey-scented blooms. Surprisingly it isn't as attractive to pollinators as the knapweed next to it. A few hoverflies visited but it was this common red soldier beetle flitting about that caught my eye. These are the insects that we used to call bloodsuckers as children. I was very surprised to have captured a reasonable image of it as my macro lens focuses very slowly and it wasn't close.

It's very like the 'flying soldier' in the 2019 Bastille Day Parade.
