Despite it being mono Monday, I thought this would be better in colour :) I walked into town this morning to get a number of old £20 notes changed to new ones at the bank (which meant paying it in and then taking the money back out again!). One of the shops in Holt refused an old one the other day, despite it being legal tender. Lots of texting and ringing round today as I was due to go to MK next week to visit family and friends, but my sisters decided they didn't want to meet up given the virus prevalence, so I've moved the trip to Sept. I'm really disappointed, but I respect their decision.

Day 483 / Day 57 of Step 3 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
Boris tried to change his message on restrictions ending on 19th, but yet again he's just muddied the water and confused everyone. So last week we had phrases like 'Freedom Day, irreversible, take personal responsibility, learn to live with it, removing the request to work from home, we won't being using Covid certification and getting life back to normal'. Today we had 'this disease continues to carry risks for you and your family, we expect and recommend you wear face masks in crowded and enclosed spaces incl public transport, gradual return to the office -we don't expect everyone to return on Monday, nightclubs and large events should use Covid passports, it's absolutely vital that we proceed now with caution, meet people outside where you can, we can't simply go back to life before Covid'. At one point I'm sure I heard Boris say 'that's what I think we're saying'! The CSA and CMO said there's no 'ideal date' to make the next move. The double jabbed have c50% less chance of catching the virus, and if they have it c50% less chance of passing it on. So overall there's a 25% chance of catching it and passing it on still, which is why self isolation is still important.

The Health Secretary now says measures will be reviewed in Sept. Modelling for SAGE shows that if people hold on to behaviours that together reduce risk by c20%, this medium risk scenario would still lead to 1,000-2,000 daily hospital admissions and 100-200 daily deaths.  France is making it mandatory for all health care workers to be vaccinated, and special Covid passes are mandated for visiting restaurants, shopping centres and other public places.
