A summer stroll through the woods

Today was a great day for walking - sunny but not too hot. Once again, the forecast had been for overcast skies, but we were rewarded with sunshine.
We walked through the Bolton Abbey estate from a place called Storiths through the woods towards Barden. The dappled light coming through the trees was particularly pleasing. On the way to Barden we passed the aqueduct (first extra) which is a large turreted bridge which crosses the River Wharfe. The splendid castellations hide the pipe that carries water from the reservoirs at the top of Nidderdale to the cities of West Yorkshire.
At Barden we had an ice cream stop, and then returned via the other side of the river past the famous Strid where the waters narrow and pass though the gorge (second extra).
Towards the end of the walk, tea and cakes were consumed at the Cavendish pavilion to round off a perfect day out.
