The last breath of a grasshopper

..clinging onto a straw as a wasp bites it in the "neck" and paralyzes it. "I didn't see that coming" could have been his last thought as he quickly looses control over his tiny muscles. Once the venom starts working and the grasshopper cannot make resistance the wasp starts to chop up the prey, even if it is still conscious. In the upper small photo the wasp is about to part with the juiciest bit of its catch, the abdomen. All that is left of the merry grasshopper is head and thorax, still clinging onto the straw. The last photo shows a different straw, another remains of a grasshopper, which should warn (the stressed out) grasshoppers of the presence of a ferocious predator in the neighborhood!
