Far out

Today's mono Monday entry for Far Out is a cluster of poppy seed heads. These are the classic opium poppy heads and if you were to cut the seed heads, and collect the latex that oozed out, dissolve it in alcohol and drink it you'd be pretty far out too...

Poppy plants produce a range of alkaloid compounds in the opium family (morphine, codeine, heroin etc). They are cultivated commercially illegally and legally for this purpose and a wide range of legal and illegal drugs are produced from them. I've used them post-operatively in the past and while they do take the pain away, they also leave you with a very strange feeling.

The cluster was taken without enough depth of field, and then processed as an Ilford HP5 Plus 400, which seemed to give the most pleasing monochrome result. The different film filters give wildly different results. I don't know how true to the actual films they are supposed to represent are, but the result is interesting enough.

Apparently there was some football match thingy last night and one side won. I'm not the slightest bit interested in football, but I head from the people who are, during the morning, that the England team did well to get to the final and did play well, but were beaten by the better team on the day. I've no idea if this is, or is not a true reflection on reality, but congratulations all round.
