Curzon Street Cemetery #3 (Thursday 15 July 2021)

Day Three in the Memorial Garden and this time the wrens were a no show, although there was some birdsong that could have been. I had a pleasant hour of reading and took photographs of the flora, of which only a couple were of wildflowers, including this one. With thanks to Miranda1008 for hosting Wildflower Week.

Junior Walker and the All Stars - Moonlight In Vermont (recorded 1964, Detroit MI, for Harvey Records)
When Harvey Fuqua, the Moonglows singer who went on to run the Harvey record label, joined Berry Gordy's Motown enterprise when he took over the entire label, he was soon followed by tenor sax player Junior Walker and his All Stars who had recorded for Harvey for two or three years. Junior Walker's song Shotgun was a surprise hit for the band and an album of the same was quickly recorded. It sold so well that a few months later a second album was released, Soul Session. However nothing on it had been recorded after the Shotgun album. There were a couple of tracks left over from the Shotgun sessions, but most of it were unreleased tracks recorded between 1962 and 1964 for Harvey Fuqua at his former label, and acquired in the takeover. Most of it were original compositions by Junior Walker or various band members, but Moonlight In Vermont was a standard, first recorded by Margaret Whiting in 1944, but Junior Walker's instrumetal version was probably inspired by a newly released version by one of his big influences, Stan Getz. It shows him in a reflective mood, somewhat apart from the uptempo recordings favoured by Motown in his first few years with the company.
I have reached 'W' in my Motown collection trawl and have been listening to several Junior Walker albums.
