Running Round

I volunteered to fill a gap in the traffic roster, guarding a charter train.  Nice half day on the train - thought I.   Turned out that the group, marking the retirement from his day job of a stalwart volunteer here, was having a long lunch party at Abergynolwyn, four hours long!   Not a half day at all.   It was the perfect day for it, especially as beer was on tap for the guests!   After lunch the train did proceed up to Nant Gwernol where everyone ambled up to the bridge over the torrent, cooler in the shade of the trees.   Here you see TR no 2, Dolgoch, running round the train ready for the return journey, my assistant looking down into the ravine while the fireman operates the frame to change the points.   I thoroughly enjoyed my day out even if needing to overcome the brain fog after a years break from guard duties was a challenge at times!

Home at tea time.   An hour at the 'day job' as it got cooler, a chat with a friend over short stop at the members bar at Wharf and then a dog walk at dusk.  A full and satisfying day.
