Lofty Heights

There's a certain level of fitness I need to enjoy this route.  I had an option for turning for home at Pateley Bridge if the undulating start felt too tough. But, feeling OK, it was onwards to Lofthouse in stunning conditions. And upwards.  In full eco mode, I gently pedalled uphill as it began hotting up.

Passing the point of no return, I enjoyed the descent before pausing for a snack near the Jevaulx Tea Room which sadly remains closed.  I knew that, though, and had my sights on a pub in Carlton a few miles on which served up a great double decker tuna sandwich (I know - tuna! They had cheese too!) and chips. There, in the very welcome shade, I got chatting to a few blokes out for a walk and lunch who waved as they passed me heading up Coverdale.

The heat was kicking in now but slow and steady and I was soon stopping at the top of the hill looking down into Wharfedale.  This is where I came across this trike on tour.  They were about to enjoy this descent as much as me, I think.

Plod, plod, steady, steady and home I made.  I count these days as holidays and have racked up 15 big days out this year which is my fun way of looking at an alternative two-week holiday for 2021.
