Water lilies

A common sight on the East Coast lochans. UK’s largest wildflower apparently.  I would have got closer but I’d already slid shrieking down a bank towards this loch and didn’t want to risk the rest of the descent.  They are creamy white with light leaves.

The weather was fairly atrocious all day which made the delighted news of the heatwave in the rest of the UK fairly galling.  We went to the church at Rodell, sadly shut because of Covid so we couldn’t show X and S the carvings, then walked over the hill to look across to the UIsts in mist and squally rain.  Drove the southern sweep of the island and back home for tea with excellent date and walnut cake.
