Breakfast at the Beach

I went for another quick early walk on the cliffs at Weybourne this morning. I arrived at 8:10 and the car park was already half full. It was very hot even at that time, so these people had the right idea to arrive early and no doubt had breakfast on the shingle beach. I then went up the Country Park in search of silver-washed fritillary butterflies - I spotted several, but they were camera shy today. I was told to watch out for adders, but didn't see any.

Day 489 / Day 63 of Step 3 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
The Health Secretary's PCR test confirms he does have Covid. The PM and Chancellor were contacted by T&T and Downing Street initially said they'd take part in a pilot scheme where you test daily instead of self isolating. Understandably there was an outcry as it seems like one rule for us and other for them. So they then confirmed they would self isolate. Boris then portrayed it as his idea to self isolate in the first place!!! There does seem to be a plethora of bad judgements at the moment. A Govt Minister says the 3rd wave may not peak until late Aug / early Sept. Labour's shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth said that abandoning all restrictions on Monday was 'effectively putting their foot down on the accelerator and throwing off the seat belt' and that his party would put in place measures to 'break transmission chains'. I read an interesting article in the Mail on Sunday about face masks, basically those countries with mandatory face mask wearing have done better on Covid than those that haven't and two countries that dropped the requirement have had to reintroduce it. The better the quality of the mask, the more effective it is, but even face coverings have an effect on both avoiding passing Covid on and catching it from someone else. The jury is out on the degree of effectiveness if not all people wear a mask, but it does help. All UK adults have now been offered their first jab (87.8% have had a first jab). 8 Team GB members are isolating after arriving on a flight with someone outside Team GB who's tested positive. 3 cases have been detected at the Olympic Village.
