Salcombe

It was another very hot day again today - we took some time to get going this morning as we were not sure what we wanted to do - going to the beach was not an option as it was just too hot. We settled on going to Salcombe, we knew it would be very busy but we decided to go nonetheless. Adam stayed behind to work on his dissertation report, and the rest of us set off.

Salcombe is a very popular holiday destination on this coast and you can see why as it is a charming town full of interesting shops and many cafes and restaurants. It also has some lovely beaches along the estuary, accessible by ferry from the town or by zodiac. We wandered around the town, did a bit of shopping as Pip wanted to get some shorts and then found a cafe for a light lunch. Despite yesterday being "Freedom Day' - such a stupid title - everyone was wearing masks in the shops and cafes. People are still being very careful and I think that is what the government hoped would happen, that despite masks no longer being the law people would self govern and be sensible, which so far they seem to be. The problem with the track and trace app pinging so many people, quite randomly in some cases, is starting to be felt in the economy as there are reports of shops not being able to open due to lack of staff and today we saw a few signs saying they could not open, one restaurant said they had to close during the day for the entire week due to staff isolating which is a shame in their busy season.

Later in the afternoon we went to a different cove for the young adults to swim, today we visited Sugary Cove and they enjoyed their swim there - even Xena got in the water right up to her shoulders today!

Sorry but I have not had time to keep up with journals today, we are going out for super tonight so I must go get ready.
