Project 365 day 202: Yarrow

Yarrow is one of the prettiest wild flowers to self-seed around our garden, with delicate, bright green feathery leaves, but I haven't found it the easiest to photograph, as it's not particularly tall and is always surrounded by long grass and weeds. This evening it was nicely lit by low sun, dotted with a few of the currently ubiquitous red soldier beetles. Yarrow has various traditional medicinal uses, and the leaves can apparently be infused to make a tea with an aniseed flavour - perhaps I'll try.

It's been another hot, sunny day here. This morning I supported J with her weekly online Art Talk with her care centre. Today the subject was Matisse, one of her favourite artists, and she had prepared things to say on her communication aid and shared photos of a lot of her favourite works, particularly the paper cuts, which Matisse made when age and increasing disability largely stopped him from painting. She always likes to learn about artists who work with assistants, as she does, and can emulate the style of the cut outs because she can draw simple shapes with support and direct her PAs to cut out and stick. She has made two cut out animations inspired by Matisse, the second of which, Imagination, was commissioned by Channel 4 and the Arts Council through a scheme for young filmmakers and made with professional support.

This afternoon we were out on the deck, J in the shade busy doing things online with her assistive technology while I potted more tomatoes, sowed more mooli, picked more berries, potted on winter cabbage seedlings and did lots of watering. The house is increasingly warm and stuffy, so it was lovely to be outside in the air.
