Eye Recognition

It was a dull morning and the wood pigeon's nest is deep in the dark of the field maple hedge. I made up my mind to take a quick shot and retire so as not to stress the bird. I couldn't see the bird in the viewfinder when I took the shot but the R5 eye recognition has come into its own.

I didn't know that wood pigeons mate for life. I think they might be taking it in turns to sit on the only ever two eggs (a pigeon pair). When the chicks hatch they will be fed with highly nutritious 'milk' from the adult bird's crop. Pigeons are unusual amongst birds as they can drink using their beaks like a straw. Other birds have to throw their heads back. I'll enjoy following the fortunes of this pair and their twins.
