A Day In The Life

Day 4

Welcome to Day 4 of the AOG games! Yesterday’s rain has lifted but our athletes are facing extreme heat and humidity today. An Air Quality Warning is also in effect due to wildfire smoke drifting in from the West. It’s a real concern for those competing in outdoor events • We have Round 2 action taking place at the Outdoor Wildflower Track. It’s the Individual Speed Pollinator Competition. The Track, by the way, is an impressive 364ft. Andrena, the Team Captain of Team Mining Bee, is on the course right now, flying the last of her four heats • Each competitor is required to touchdown and pollinate 5 flowers of their choice, per lap. Their lap times are converted to points, and the best two scores will advance to the next round. With today’s heat, this will be no easy task • Andrena’s Lap 1 speed was clocked at 18mph but currently on this last lap her pace has slowed to 12mph. Certainly not unexpected with the added weight of the nectar but Andrena will need to keep her speed up if she wants to maximize the time left on the clock • Let’s take a moment to savor the skill level of this highly experienced and competitive athlete.
