Items from TSM’s birthday on Sunday. On a day when we had hedge cutters in, domestic duty to do,  and a lot of rain,  I only got out briefly. But it was actually rather nice. I slowed down and smelled the coffee as they say.

Finished reading Margaret MacMillan’s "War: how conflict shaped us". A very worthy read which makes you slightly desperate for the prospects of human evolution. It feels as if conflict is locked in to the DNA of our species at both the individual and social level.

On a happier note I am one of six children (third eldest) and the youngest of us turned fifty today. That made me feel old but also bought back some happy memories…
