Today (Friday) we said goodbye to Rashid in the Islamic tradition, which included prayers at the mosque and burial. It was a time for the community to join together in prayers and committal. Having experienced many christian funerals it was a tremendous privilege to experience something which was in a different language, and yet expressed the same sense of respect, thankfulness and goodness that we are more familiar with. And now the memories of times spent with Rashid come flooding into our minds as we recall goodness and humour and welcome and generosity and family and food and home and faith and love and warmth and hope. And amazing biryani.
