Another Historical Adventure

We went on another historical adventure with the app "Tidslommen" today. It is a fabulous holiday project to visit all these interesting places.

We went to two very different places today. First we went to Lejre, which was a very important place back when the vikings ruled Denmark and then we drove to Ringsted and learned about The Church of St. Bendt, which is the only building left of Ringsted Kloster, the Benedictine monastery, that burnt down in 18th century.

In Ringsted, I also learned a lot about Queen Dagmar of Denmark, who came to Denmark to marry King Valdemar in 1205. Sadly she only got to live in Denmark for 7 years. She died, when she gave birth to her second son. She is buried in The Church of St. Bendt.

My collage is:
Top left:
Gammel Kongsgaard, a farm that belonged to Ledreborg Castle and which has been home to the same family from 1749 - 1959.

Bottom left:
A Viking Age Stone Ship. Huge rocks were placed in the shape of a Viking Ship and then there was a burial ground in the middle of the ship. It was believed that the deceased Vikings would use the ship to sail into the afterlife. More than 50 graves were found in this Stone Ship.
You can see how big the rocks are compared to the boys.
And you can see a reconstruction of the Stone Ship here!

Bottom right:
The remains of a huge Viking Age Kings Hall. You can see a reconstruction of this hall here!

See you tomorrow
