An imposing stronghold.

Dour and imposing under a suitably dull, overcast sky, Carlisle Castle is one of the four oldest buildings in Carlisle with over 900 years of turbulent history behind it. Situated near the ruins of Hadrian's Wall, today it is the county headquarters of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment and houses a museum to the regiment. It is managed by English Heritage and open to the public. Rather a predictable blip, I'm afraid, but as one of Carlisle's major attractions I felt I should at least record it for my journal.
