Our very own Royal Arcade.

Big cities aren't the only places to have retained or restored their elegant Victorian or Edwardian Shopping Arcades. Keighley has its own rather lovely Royal Arcade in Low Street . Originally built in 1899 with work completed in 1901, the site was known as the Royal Arcade and Crown Buildings. Renovation was undertaken in 2003 when great excitement was generated by the discovery of a hidden street of Edwardian shops on a lower level underground, with much of the building work of the cellars of seven shops still intact.
There are actually two areas to the current Arcade - the one in the photograph and another on two levels through the open arch in the background, following the T-shape of the original Victorian layout. I'm hoping to photograph that area some other time. But not tomorrow, as it's back to Leeds for a Photography Masterclass. It's a freebee, so don't quite know what's in store but I'm sure it'll be interesting.
