Another of Tryfan46’s steamy blips

That’s an easier title than “No 25 Northiam leaves Bodiam with the 2.18pm train for Tenterden Town via Northiam and Wittersham Road”.

We’ve volunteered to lead a railway walk as part of the High Weald Walking Festival in September so we went to Bodiam to recce the walk. The walk is titled “In the footsteps of the Hoppers” and tells the story of hops and hopping in the Bodiam area.

We’re encouraging walkers to join us at Bodiam on the first train of the day from Tenterden and, if we get our timings right catch the last train back at the end of the day.

First thing first though. We parked at Bodiam Castle and had our packed lunch topped up with a scone and coffee before setting off on the walk. We completed the walk in 3 hours which should give us plenty of time to catch that last train back to Tenterden.

A mostly good walk, a section of awkward road to negotiate, great views and a magnificent, little known Jacobean House at Great Wigsell. See extra.

And, of course, there was the Castle Inn at the end of the walk to quench our thirsts.
