Prince Of Orange

Missed out from the endangered species list, not because it isn't threatened, rather that there are too many other species ahead of it. Known for its multi-generational northbound migration from breeding grounds in Mexico, Monarchs at least find some respite in our meadow, fuelling for their return journey.

Admired by early North American settlers, Monarchs were so named in reference to Prince William of Orange (later King William III).

This was the first time, this year at least, I had seen one at rest. Previously they had been far too energetic to capture. Dark markings stood out nicely against the white boneset.
