August 2nd Saturday Strollers

August is here and this months '2nd Saturday Strollers' is coming up, a week on Saturday, the 14th August - and by that time, the restriction on outside-gatherings in Scotland will have risen to 5,000 people, so we should finally be okay to walk in a single group ;-)

We're going to head back over to the Pentlands for the 14th, and will meet outside the Allan Ramsay Hotel, in the village of Carlops - the other side of the hills from last months walk!

Some outline detail follows below:

------------

- meet at 10.15am, Saturday 14th August outside the Allan Ramsay Hotel, in the village of Carlops
- NOTE the slightly later start time than usual, to allow for potential bus travel!
- see local map link for the meeting-point here: https://bit.ly/2X1EFO5

- Stagecoach Bus No.101A goes from Edinburgh to Carlops
- a single ticket is £3; a return ticket is £5.40
- to arrive in Carlops for 10.07am, you'll need to catch the bus that leaves Edinburgh Bus Station at 9.20am
- it stops along the way at Lothian Road, Tollcross and Morningside; so plenty of local options to be picked up
- eventually; get off opposite the Allan Ramsay Hotel in Carlops
- we'll leave, from there, on the walk at 10.15am
- given the next bus is over an hour later, we just can't wait for anyone who doesn't arrive on the 10.07am bus: sorry!

- going home, there is a bus returning to Edinburgh every hour just after 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm & 6pm

- for drivers; there is a small car park at the end of the village, opposite Carlops Parish Church
- it's a 5-minute walk from the car park, back along the village to the Allan Ramsay Hotel

- the walking route will be 'Walk 30' from my ever-trusty Pentland Hills Guidebook
- it's a circular route, from Carlops, around The Mount and Patie's Hill ... we walked it as a family-group back in April: some detail here
- it has a perfect lunch stop at North Esk Resevoir

- as you can see from the snap, the walk is around 5 miles in length
- please do bring along some snacks/packed-lunch etc.
- and with a lunch stop etc., it should take between 3 and 4-hours to complete

- we end up back at the Allan Ramsay Hotel, so there will be the opportunity for some post-walk refreshments ;-)
- all before eventually catching one of those buses back to town!
