Roadmenders

When I was a little boy, many moons ago, my grandfather gave me a book to read. It was called 'Roadmenders book of days' and was a journal purporting to be written by a man travelling rural England mending the highway. It was full of philosophy and nature writing from the turn of the 20th century.

I wonder if these fine fellows could offer philosophy for our times?
