Curiouser and Curiouser

I’m afraid I failed to post yesterday, so it’s a back-blip - due to a combination of tiredness and indecision.

I love the V&A and have been a member for several years. This does mean, of course, that when we do make it to London, we binge-view exhibitions. And so it is that we embark on a campaign of military precision: 8.45 - Epic Iran; 10.15 - Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser; 11.45 - Bags. As usual, the V&A excels in the skills of imaginative presentation. Epic Iran is full of precious exhibits showing the rich cultural history of Persia - with projections creating the intricate domes of Isfahan. Alice shows the huge influence of Lewis Carroll’s books across the years - who knew, for example, that Dali had  illustrated an edition - and plunges you into the surreal fantasies of Alice’s adventures through a range of stunning effects. Bags - the most traditional of the three - presents intricate constructions of bags through the ages, from the totally practical to the crazily eccentric. All this means, of course, that I gather a huge array of photographs- and it’s impossible to choose.

In the end I go for a shot of a potential ‘Alice’ caught in the lights against one of the exhibits, her shadow looming large above her. It just seemed to echo the shrinking and growing motif of the book.
