Lock Keeper's Cottage

Today the skies were grey and the rain was frequent and often extremely heavy. In contrast, 35 years ago today, the weather was hot and sunny;  my new wife and I were dressed in our lightweight summer clothes as we left our wedding reception by narrowboat and sailed off, literally, into the sunset on the River Soar.

After our builder came to do a little more work today on the kitchen and we had agreed with the salesman an alternative fridge freezer to the one we had ordered (but which was not available "owing to Covid delays"), we got out for an anniversary walk this evening along the nearest stretch of canal - the Grand Union at Watford.  This lock keeper's cottage by Lock 76 looked to be rather in need of some loving care and attention.

It was very peaceful and quiet along the canal and it was good to get away from the house and semi-built kitchen for a couple of hours.
