Mickey Mouse

This 2m high shrub grows alongside our driveway. I'd never taken much notice of it, until it started flowering a week or so ago. I had no idea what it was, and turned to Google Lens for help. Which, to my surprise, came up with what seems to be a correct identification: Ochna serrulata. This species originates in South Africa and is a popular garden plant in many parts of the world, especially in warm climates.

What has this to do with Mickey Mouse? you ask. According to Wikipedia, Mickey Mouse Plant is one of the common names of this species. 'Due to the plant's ripe black fruit, which upside down resembles the ears of Mickey Mouse, and bright red sepals which resemble his trousers'. Once the fruits develop I'll blip this plant again. Meanwhile, mousketeers will have to try to contain their excitement.
