Wanderings & Witterings

Dalzell

Wednesday dawned as a houseworky kind of day - washing, shopping, boring - which went downhill in the afternoon when I had a Zoom meeting for an hour-and-a-half. However, all this was bearable as I knew I had a Ramblers walk to look forward to in the evening.

The weather forecast was for heavy rain, clearing to sunshine around 5pm. Since our walk was due to start at 6pm we were hoping this would be accurate. In the event, the forecast was accurate but the timings were out and our walk started in persistent rain.

We met at Strathclyde Park and walked over to Baron's Haugh and Dalzell Estate, near Motherwell. (Yes, the same location as last Wednesday's daytime walk, although we followed a different route this time around.) There then followed a very enjoyable walk along by the River Clyde, an RSPB bird sanctuary, a country estate and some fine woodland paths. The rain stopped, the sun came through and by the time we arrived back at Strathclyde Park, an excellent sunset appeared (extra). A walk that made up for the earlier parts of the day.
