Lilia

Back Blip - please bear with me while I do a bit of a catch-up!

Amond the features of the Rough Castle Roman fort site near Bonnybridge are these defensive pits, or lilia. The Romans would dig these holes, place sharp upturned spikes within them and then cover them with grass, bracken, etc. Any Pict attacking the fort along this line of defence would be in for a rather unpleasant surprise.
