Sgwarnog: In the Field

Modest

I wasn’t feeling quite ready for being in a stadium with 17,000 other people, so avoided Bradford City’s first game of the season despite having renewed my season ticket.

Down the road at Guiseley there was a more modest gathering of 500 some individuals to see the kick-off of the National League North season, with AFC Fylde being the visitors. It was a goal apiece at the end of the first half but Fylde ran away with it after the break to take a 1-4 lead. A late consolation for Guiseley gave a 2-4 final score. I think Fylde are one of the few fully professional teams in this division and they will be looking to make a swift return to the league above having suffered a mid-pandemic relegation.

Wildlife observation of the day came when a small flock of Black-headed gulls became interested in the food potential of the pitch mid-game. I don’t know if the drumming of the player’s boots on the turf was bringing the worms up, but the gulls were happy to secure their tithe.
