SHOWER TIME

Inca Tern (Larosterna inca) is the only member of this Genus. It lives along the coast of Peru and Chile being restricted to the Humboldt Current. It is said that the white moustache is a reliable marker of its body condition....the longer the better. Pairs, both having large moustaches, tend to produce larger and more robust chicks. They are fish feeders diving from the air to snag subsurface fishes like anchovies.

As I was shooting, this one took off and landed under a waterfall conveniently located in the free flight room of the zoo's Aviary. Shower time. It's a wonderful place to visit especially in the winter as it's warm, tropical in there and free flying birds are everywhere. Best to wear a hat to avoid aerial bombardment. Also best to wait to shoot until your camera gear warms to ambient temperatures to avoid lens fogging.

Clearest in Large.
