Taking a Bath

American Oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus): it does feed on oysters in addition to mussels, clams, marine worms, sand crabs, limpets, urchins and jellyfish.

It has a strong, razor like beak which it can thrust between the halves of bivalves and open them up exposing the meat. I am unaware of the diet of a zoo kept bird....but, clearly, he loves his morning shower.

Clearest in Large.
