One Step at a Time

Light at the End of It

Taken from about half way down the Edgbaston Tunnel on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal. It's nearly 100 metres long and not one of my favourite routes. The Calthorpe Estate owners would only allow the canal to pass through in a cutting with no access points, wharves or commercial buildings since canals then were treated with much the same derision as motorways are now. As a result, this stretch (known as 'the Garden Reach') is a bit un-nerving to walk along as there's no way off it should the need arise. I'm pleased to report that the character at the end of the tunnel was my walking companion and perfectly harmless. Oh yes, and some great icicles - apparently this only happens in very cold Winters.
