Land on the water

Due to the many floods in combination with the food shortage during the First World War, it was decided to close off the Zuiderzee, as the inland sea was then called, from the Waddensea by constructing a dike and polders.  These polders were intended to grow vegetables and potatoes.
.We first cycled to my cousin who lives on the Noordoostpolder for a very pleasant morning chat.  We share our hobby of slow traveling and have a lot to talk about.
There are two islands in the Noordoostpolder that are still clearly recognisable in the landscape. We cycled past Schokland to Urk.

The wind was still against us, but luckily diminished during the ride. It was a special experience to cycle through the Flevopolder, the vegetable garden of the Netherlands
