The second half of life..

Love at first bite

So.....here we all are again.......full lockdown, quiet roads and a sense of deja vu as we all tuned into the 1.00pm update.

7 new cases, which had risen to 10 by the evening.  The outbreak is confirmed as the more worrying Delta variety, a strain that is twice as infectious and more liable to cause severe illness.  Equally as worrying as Delta itself are the selfish individuals who have chosen to dodge the intent of the lockdown by continuing to gather in large groups or who have chosen to head out of Auckland to other regions, apparently seeing the lockdown as an opportunity for a short break away.  Two things crossed my mind when I read this: firstly, these people were quite possibly loud and proud of the efforts our Olympians recently made to win gold for 'us'.  Quite happy to share in the pride of being a winner on the global stage and quite happy to piggy-back their pride on the backs of the athletes who did all the work.  But now, when the country needs to stand together, they think only of their own wants.
The second thing that crossed my mind was to wonder how many of them buy lotto tickets.......the chances of winning the lottery is calculated to be on average 1 in about 4 million, a 'risk' people feel is a reasonable 'risk' to invest in.  Whilst I'm no mathematician, I suspect the risk of catching COVID when it is in the community would be significantly more likely, yet some people choose to act as though they are bullet proof whilst also disregarding the possible impact being a carrier could have on others.  Selfish arrogance.
