Are you looking at the future?

Most people are now convinced that if this planet is to remain habitable for our grandchidren we are going to
have to make some significant changes to the way we live.
In particular we will have to drastically reduce our use of fossil fuels to prevent the world from overheating.

One of the principal contributions to this potential disaster is our use of gas, oil and in some countries coal to heat
our homes and provide hot water.
We are researching how else we can provide these essential services.

Of course many will say it is the job of Goverment to make these changes.

But we happen to believe that those of us who are in a position to do so should take the initiative ourselves and begin to make some of these changes. We do not agree with those who say that because the Chinese, for example, are continuing to build coal power stations, we should not take the initiative and set an example.

There are many things we can do and here is an example.

Our gas boiler is 18 years old and soon it will not be possible to get spare parts for it. In a few years time the sale of new gas boilers will be forbidden.

So we are researching replacing it with an Air Heat Pump. My Blip shows one we went to look at today in a nearby village. It just uses electricity which increasingly will come from renewable sources.
There are also ground heat pumps which take heat from under the ground but we are on solid rock which would make it difficult to instal.

How does it work? Well thats a bit complicated to explain here so I suggest you look in Wikipedia.
But you can think of it as a refrigerator in reverse.
We would just be heating the house as our hot water comes from an immersion heater powered by solar panels.

If people are interested I may do some more blips on how to save the world.
