Calendula

Since brass, nor stone, nor earth, nor boundless sea
But sad mortality o’er-sways their power,
How with this rage shall beauty hold a plea,
Whose action is no stronger than a flower?

from Sonnet 65, by William Shakespeare

Today was spent at work attending a training session on de-escalating  problem behaviors and responding to dangerous and unsafe situations. Makes the coming school year feel very, very close. Also found out our school board reversed an earlier decision to allow wearing masks to be optional - for now they will be required. As annoying as that can be, it seems the right decision under the circumstances. The circumstances themselves are also very annoying.

For a last-minute emergency photo I'm pleased with how today's image turned out. Coming back from an evening walk this flower was poking up from the pot by the front steps, and was lit up by a small solar light we hung from the railing there. With a little help from the pen light on my key fob I was able to capture this image with my phone.
