It's that time of year again

Let the fig-scrumping begin! Someone else had clearly been at the trees by the children's playground before I got there, but I still managed a haul of 2 kilos, and there are plenty of unripe ones left on the trees. So both chutney and jam are on the cards.

Up and at it this morning. We sorted out the debris from last night that we'd dumped in the storeroom, and then went down to the garden to collect the non-perishable items we'd left there. After that I went for a delicious swim. The end of August is the best time -- most people have gone home and I get the pool all to myself.

Later we went to pick up Bruno the lovely Peugeot from the garage after his Contrôle Technique. It only cost 100 euros to get him through -- what a bargain! And now he's safe for another two years. Mind you, since the last CT two years ago he's only done 2,000 km, bringing his total to a mere 215,000 or so. But it's so useful having a second car available, despite the odd minor problem. Air conditioning doesn't work -- solution: open the windows. Battery drains itself when not in use for some unknown reason -- solution: disconnect it when you've finished with it for the day. Long may he roll on!
