Les petites mains

The village social club is doing the last Sunday lunch of the season tomorrow, so this morning half a dozen of us got together to make ratatouille for 70-odd people. This involved about 30 kg of vegetables, but with that many of us the chopping went quite quickly. I am a bit bored with ratatouille though -- we seem to have made a lot of it recently, and I'm still eating the leftovers from Wednesday.

The local method appears to involve cooking it for three or four hours, unlike mine. It's also less faff though -- chop everything and chuck into the pan sequentially, removing the onions and peppers to cook the aubergines and courgettes, then putting it all in together with the tomatoes. Extra: the simmering pot which was left to itself to be checked on periodically through the afternoon.

Earlier I'd dropped S off at the airport for his visit to his mum -- he's just WhatsApped to say he's arrived. I'm dining on leftover gazpacho, leftover melon, and leftover rosé (lunch was leftover ratatouille and leftover cake).

In other news, Mystère got into a fight on Thursday night, so he's locked in. He hasn't been complaining, so I guess he's not feeling that great, but as far as I can see none of the bites and scratches on his head is infected (he never turns tail!). And after sleeping all day yesterday, he has got up and eaten today. Glad he didn't do this when T and R were looking after him.
