X marks the spot

B had come up from Narbonne for last night's party, and she stayed with us overnight. Having gone to bed around 1 a.m., none of us was up for an early start this morning. But eventually I made coffee and we breakfasted on that and some melon and cheesecake, al fresco on the square. Then we pretty much pottered, doing a bit more clearing up and distribution of leftovers around the village, before lunching ourselves, on leftovers of course.

I drove B back to Narbonne and decided to come back via the scenic route in hopes of a blip. As it happened I didn't find much to inspire me, but here's the cross that marks the location of Fontfroide Abbey to weary travellers. There are  currently several fire engines based there, their off-duty crews lounging in hammocks -- I presume because the tinder-dry garrigue around there is such a fire risk. Luckily no smoke to be seen today.

A quiet evening in -- we watched the first episode of Michael Portillo's Pyrenees series on catchup. It was good to see our friend Georgina in fine form, and we also recognised her friend Edorta at the watermill. We found the repetitive and  somewhat cliched commentary a bit irritating, but it was lovely to see those lush green Basque landscapes again.
