End of the season

Tonight was the last show of the season. In the olden days it always used to be the Santandrea jazz band, a lively singalong event, but they haven't been for a few years now. This was a bit of a contrast to normal programming: a concert of Schubert Lieder and piano pieces for two and four hands.

It's still warm, but the heat dome is over now, and it's a shame that the concert was indoors instead of under the stars in the amphitheatre.  But it's understandable as there was an (unrealistic) forecast of rain, and it was a bit windy, which is a real pain when you are using paper scores.

Predictably, the audience was a fraction of the size of last night's crowd, but we all enjoyed it. Matthieu and Stéphane introduced the pieces, told us a bit about Schubert and his life,  and translated the words of the Lieder, which is always helpful. Also they played two Impromptus (among my favourite piano pieces) and some lovely Fantaisies. We had a bit of a chat with them afterwards and then walked home in bright moonlight and a clear sky.
