a lifetime burning

The Bargain

Every now and then Cathy comes back from the garden centre with a plant.    She's not very keen on buying plants in plastic pots, for obvious reasons, but sometimes needs must.  In this particular case I am reliably informed that this dahlia was a bargain, being a sale item.  Clearly it needed a good home to go to, and we have obliged. She has mentioned to me several times precisely which variety this is - but I have forgotten, it may well have been peach melba.  It certainly looks like an exotic dessert.

When you look at the flower up this close you notice how the yellow looks as though it is being painted on, rather like the gardeners painting the white roses red in Alice in Wonderland.  I didn't see any obvious sight of the painters, so if they are painting this flower yellow they are doing at night when we are all asleep.
